MCD allocates 2.4 crore to mitigate pollution

New Delhi: The air quality of Delhi has been deteriorating, reaching ‘the’very poor’ category. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to allocate Rs 2.4 crore to 12 city zones for the improvement of the air quality in the city. All the 12 zones will get Rs 20 lakh each to apply some measure to control excess dust, sprinkle water, and employ personnel for such works.

Money has been given to control pollution more effectively and use anti-smog guns and dust suppressants quickly. Monitor the construction sites regularly to curb the dust and keep eyes on demolition waste management as well. Zonal Deputy Commissioners have also been tasked to manage debris collection and enforce dust control measures at construction sites.

Additionally, the Public Works Department (PWD) has been keeping its eyes to minimize the dust levels. The MCD is adamant about following the directives of the Commission for Air Quality Management and implementing all possible measures to check worsening air pollution in the national capital.

While Delhi’s air quality witnessed a slight improvement because of the squally winds on Thursday night, the AQI still remains at 354, in the’very poor’ category. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 4 pm was 306 against 364 a day earlier. However, the pollution levels in Delhi were the highest in the country, data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed.

An AQI reading of 0-50 is categorized as ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
