Nagaland launches Demo Park to empower horticulture farmers

Kohima: Nagaland has been making steady progress in the horticulture sector. The state government is providing all essential help to farmers so that they can boost their productivity. In this regard, Nagaland’s Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, on Friday inaugurated the vibrant Farmers Demo Park at Botsa in Kohima. On this occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio was among the attendees.

Minister Kruse went on to say that the Demo Park is set to help farmers to earn a hefty amount of money. Besides this, the government will provide them with all kinds of facilities so that they can make themselves economically sound. She further added the government has brought a new scheme, known as Horti Tourism. It is a combination of horticulture and tourism. It is expected that it would create more chances for locals, helping them to boost their economy.

The minister expressed that horticulture is the backbone of the state’s economy, producing some unique crops such as Naga Mircha, Naga Tree Tomato, and Naga Pineapple. She further added that the Horticulture Department has left no stone unturned in improving the productivity and economic conditions of farmers and expanding sustainable farming, which is good for better yield and the environment.

Horticulture Secretary Akumla Chuba inspired farmers and said that the Demo Park will provide an opportunity for farmers to learn modern farming techniques from the experts. The aim of the park is to display scientific farming methods and new crop varieties. Farmers will get skills on how to handle modern machines, making the park a learning hub for them.
