NDMC launches Swachhata Hi Sewa Fortnight to transform Delhi into a greener Capital

New Delhi: Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is organizing “Swachhta Hi Seva Pakhwada” program in its area from 15th September to 2nd October with emphasis on visible cleanliness.
NDMC Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay highlights the importance of the campaign in fostering a cleaner and healthier India. He said that cleanliness is the central theme of this year’s service “Garbage Free India”. To facilitate the successful execution of this initiative, NDMC has appointed dedicated Nodal Officers who will collaborate with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Traders’ Associations (MTAs), the Sanitation Department, the Horticulture Department, and Civil Engineering Department.

The centerpiece of the Swachhata Hi Sewa Fortnight will be the grand Swachhta Event scheduled for October 1st, 2023, across all colony parks within the NDMC jurisdiction under which more than 250 programme will be organized. The Heads of Departments (HODs) will lead the charge by inspecting and actively engaging with RWAs, MTAs, local citizens, and the Sanitation, Horticulture, and Civil Engineering Departments in the “Clean Your Park and Markets” activity, he said.
He has appealed on October 1st at 10 am for everyone to donate 1 hour for cleanliness and participate in the mass movement.
Upadhyay stressed the importance of meticulous record-keeping during this campaign. Nodal Officers are responsible for documenting key metrics, including the quantity of plastic waste collected, construction and demolition waste collected, green waste collected, the square meter area of the park cleaned, and the number of citizens who actively participate in park cleaning activities.

Under this initiative, all 14 sanitation circles within the NDMC area will extend their efforts to slum and JJ Cluster areas, including Anant Ram Dairy, Shankar Camp, Shiv Mandir Madrasi Camp, Arjun Das Camp, JJ Cluster Fridkot House Lane, Sangli Mess Princess Park, Jodhpur Mess, JJ Cluster Palika Dham, JJ Cluster Chelmsford Club, JJ Cluster Dr. Rajendra Prasad Lane, JJ Talkatora Park Lane, Sanjay Camp, Vivekanand Camp, NSCI Camp, JJ camp under Safdarjung Flyover, DID Camp, Flying Club, Masjid Camp, Tughlak Lane, and B.R. Camp, he said.
Additionally, commercial areas such as Basrurkar Market, Begum Zaidi Market, CSC Market, Netaji Nagar Main Market, Palika Bhawan Shopping Complex, Aurobindo Marg, Delhi Haat, Laxmi Bai Nagar Market, NBCC Kidwai Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Connaught Place, Janpath, Odeon, Palika Bazar, Gole Market, Bengali Market, Khan Market, Pandara Market, Prithvi Raj Market, and Baird Lane Market will also be covered, he informed.

Upadhyay said that the campaign encompasses several major parks within the NDMC jurisdiction, including Lodhi Garden, Sanjay Jheel, Nehru Park, CWG Park, Talkatora Garden, Indo Africa Rose Garden, Brick Rose Garden, Bharat Asian Maitri Park, Model Park, Ambedkar Park, and numerous colony parks.
He encouraged active participation from all RWAs and MTAs within the NDMC area, urging them to join hands in making this campaign a resounding success. He appealed to the citizens and visitors of New Delhi to actively engage in the Swachhta events, emphasizing that maintaining cleanliness and greenery is not only the duty of the civic body but also the responsibility of every citizen.
