No conclusive data on air pollution causing illnesses: Govt

New Delhi: Air pollution is leading to many diseases. It is commonly said that respiratory ailments are at high risk due to severe air quality. However, minister of state for health Prataprao Jadhav has been talking differently. In the ongoing Parliament session, the minister categorically said in the Lower House on Friday that it can’t be assumed with certainty or any data is available that such kinds of diseases are taking place exclusively due to air pollution.

Answering a question in the Lok Sabha, Jadhav said: “Health effects of air pollution are a synergistic manifestation of factors that include food habits, occupational habits, socioeconomic status, medical history, immunity, heredity, etc. of the individuals.” The minister further added that the government has taken several steps to address air pollution problems.
