Floriculture creates immense job opportunities in Kashmir 

Kashmir: The flower business has been flourishing all over the country. So is the case with Kashmir, where there is an immense scope in the floriculture sector. To thrive this sector, Director of Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, started the sale of winter flower saplings (both hybrid and open-pollinated) at the Floriculture Nursery in Lalmandi, Srinagar. He inspected different nurseries and minutely saw their development, including high-tech poly houses. Additionally, he also talked to the technical experts there.

The director went on to say that the department has launched several new programmes under the floriculture development scheme. He explained that currently, the trend of home gardening has been growing rapidly in Kashmir, and landscape gardening is now an important part of it.

The department has been working hard to develop organized commercial floriculture units in Kashmir, which will prove beneficial for both the young people and farmers with small land holdings by creating job opportunities and their livelihood security as well. In fact, Kashmir has a unique climate, so its popularity is unbelievable among the tourists. The cultivation of cut flowers, ornamental plants, and aromatic floriculture offers significant potential for generating jobs.

He stressed that floriculture is likely to open employment openings for a huge number of people. The director urged the officers to hold awareness and training programmes for farmers and educated youth, giving them first-hand knowledge of floriculture.
