Organic strawberry farming changes fortune of Jharkhand’s farmer

Jamshedpur: Success depends on hard labour, innovative thinking, and faith in God. Thinking as per the situation is essential for getting a huge success. Currently, Baiju Hembrom is a well-known name in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district. He changed his mindset from traditional farming to horticulture crops. He succeeded in his mission by doing organic strawberry cultivation, fetching his income, and bringing recognition to the entire region.

In the beginning, he cultivated some common vegetables such as capsicum, brinjal, tomato, ladyfinger, bitter gourd, and cucumber. He wanted to improve his crop quality. His fortune changes in 2021-22 when he gets the support of the District Horticulture Officer as well as help from the Horticulture Development Scheme. He ventured into organic strawberry cultivation using some modern methods like the setting up of polyhouses, drip irrigation, and so on.

Baiju boosted his farm’s production after getting training in advanced farming methods. His seriousness and dedication earned him to bag the first prize for his remarkable farming of strawberries at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Darisai Kisan Mela, organised by the Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperation.

Currently, Baiju has been earning Rs 2-3 lakh annually from his strawberry and other horticulture crops farming. His story makes it clear that Jharkhand is packed with horticulture potential. His success shows that with dedication, innovative thinking, and timely support, it can be both profitable and sustainable. His achievements serve as a motivation for other farmers to follow the same path and earn success.
