New Delhi: Ozone gas is not visible, and no one smells it as well. It is often called ‘bad ozone.’ This unseen pollution is not being realized by a huge number of people how dangerous it is. Ozone pollution is increasing in Delhi NCR. As per the pollution control centers, from March 1 to April 25 in 2025, the level of ozone pollution has crossed the safe marks in Delhi.
Several areas of the national capital are reckoned as the hotspots for this kind of pollution—Nehru Nagar, Najafgarh, Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, and Sri Aurobindo Marg—where people are exposed to higher-than-normal levels of this dangerous gas.

Ground-level ozone is extremely dangerous for the people. However, the “good ozone” in the upper atmosphere protects us from destructive ultraviolet rays. This type is formed when sunlight reacts with emissions from vehicles, factories, and other sources.
Experts believe that the overall situation is deteriorating. Dr. Pratibha Dogra, a senior lung specialist, explains that ozone is extremely harmful for the lungs, reduces lung function, and increases the risk of infections. Even short exposure can cause coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. People with asthma, COPD, or bronchitis are at greater risk.
Ozone pollution is more dangerous for children, senior citizens, pregnant women, outdoor workers, and athletes. With the rise of traffic, more people have to expose themselves outdoors. Therefore, the health of the citizens of the city is being damaged without their knowledge. The time has come to act immediately; otherwise, ozone pollution will be another mind-boggling issue for the national capital.
