Papaya farming: A profitable venture for farmers

Ranchi: Papaya farming is a profitable business. Farmers can earn a hefty amount in a short period of time. Therefore, the farming community has been rapidly concentrating on papaya farming. The coming months of March and April are considered to be ideal for papaya cultivation because the risk of pests and diseases remains low during this period. If farmers adopt advanced farming methods, then they can earn up to Rs 2–3 lakh per hectare.

However, farmers have to focus on several things for getting maximum benefit: It is essential to prevent waterlogging and root damage. Avoid infection and disease, as whiteflies and aphids are dangerous for papaya crops. Farmers need to add disease-resistant seeds. It is better to grow saplings in polyhouses. Never forget to spray the plant to overcome pests. They should plant sorghum, millet, or maize around the field to diminish pest attacks.
