People take help from nature to overcome mental issues in England

London: A major scheme has been running in England to help people connect with nature, which has proved beneficial for mental health patients, as per a report. The activity has helped a huge number of people, as per the report.

People are taking part in events such as nature walks, community gardening, planting trees, natural swimming, and so on, which has helped more than 8,000 individuals. This project has been considered the biggest of its kind in the world so far.

According to the findings, people’s perceptions of happiness and the value of life increased to almost national averages after participating in the schemes. However, the levels of anxiety have gone down. The experiment discovered that a green prescription only cost roughly £500, making it cost-effective as well in the comparison to other therapies.

The government of England has been funding the seven green prescribing pilot initiatives with £5.7 million, started in 2020. Social workers, GPs, and mental health teams referred people to participate and take advantage of this scheme. Prof. Ruth Garside of the University of Exeter stated that “our findings show that ‘green social prescribing’ is an effective way to suppress the mental health issues among the people.”

Participants said that it works better than medication for us. It is needless to add that green prescribing schemes are a remarkable adventure, especially for those who are mentally sick.

The green prescribing sites have been running in several areas of England, such as Humberside, South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Manchester, Surrey, and so on.
