Plants and flowers fail to grow properly amid poor air quality

New Delhi: Air pollution has been increasing worldwide due to industrialization, urban growth, and traffic. Plants and flowers both play vital roles in keeping our environment fresh. In fact, they are unable to grow fully due to poor air quality, which is a  dangerous sign for the entire world. Air pollution can lead to several kinds of diseases. Therefore, it is the duty of all to preserve our plants and let them grow properly.

Photosynthesis is the process that keeps plants grow properly and get energy as well. At present, harmful substances in the air like particulate matter, ozone, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides have threatened the proper growth of plants. These pollutants can make it harder for plants to absorb light and produce energy.

As per the latest research, even a 10% drop in photosynthesis can lead to a 5-8% decrease in crop yield. Several flowers and plants can’t bloom fully due to a lack of photosynthesis. Some plants can suffer and fade  in polluted regions.

Air pollutants can settle on leaves, causing visible damage like spots, yellowing, and early leaf drop. This weakens the plants, making it harder for them to cool down, absorb nutrients, and stay healthy. It also affects plant reproduction by damaging pollen, which is crucial for pollination.
