Protest erupts over proposed use of horticulture land

Dindori: The administration is looking for land to erect a new Collectorate building in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, a survey has been going on nearby government land. Recently, the Nazul Department team surveyed the land of the Horticulture Office near Baiga Baigi Chowk. The people of this area have been protesting because they don’t like to see disruption on the horticulture land.

On this 2.69-hectare land, millions of plants are being grown. If the administration takes this land for the building, then it would be a great loss to the horticulture sector. In fact, 10,000 mother plants are expected to be destroyed, causing significant environmental damage.

Local lawyers and environmentalists from Dindori have come forward in support of saving the horticulture land. In this connection, advocate Samyak Jain had written letters to the Principal Secretary of the Horticulture and Food Processing Department and the Ministry of Environment in New Delhi.

Following this, centre assessed the situation and directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Madhya Pradesh, to take necessary action under the current laws, rules, and regulations. The ministry also asked for a report on the actions taken regarding this issue.

Most importantly, millions of plants are prepared on the land of the Horticulture Office. About 10,000 mother trees are planted here, from which plants are grown. In addition, 275 large trees, many of which are decades old, are also present.

Currently, 51,000 plants are available on the land. If the administration selects this horticulture land for any building construction, and construction takes place, then these mother trees that produce millions of plants will be destroyed.
