Punjab govt to boost farmers’ prosperity with horticulture schemes

Chandigarh: In an effort to bring prosperity and make the state’s agricultural economy more potent, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has been relentlessly supporting the farmers with new initiatives. The newly elected horticulture minister of state , Mohinder Bhagat, held a review meeting at Chandigarh on Monday with key officials to discuss the progress of horticulture schemes for the benefit of farmers.

Special Chief Secretary Horticulture, K.A.P. Sinha, gave all the details about the success of several horticulture centers, including the Center of Excellence for Vegetables in Kartarpur and the Center of Excellence for Potato in Dhogri, as well as initiatives in Pathankot and lychee and sericulture farming. Director of Horticulture Shailinder Kaur was also present on the occasion and updated the department’s various schemes, running for the welfare of farmers.

Minister Bhagat stressed the need to raise awareness among farmers about the ongoing welfare schemes. He announced that events should be organized on a regular basis to pass information regarding the modern techniques of horticulture and encourage them to go for horticulture farming as it is a money-making occupation.

In a significant development, the Department of Horticulture, the nodal agency for Punjab under the Government of India’s Agriculture Infrastructure Fund scheme, recently received its first award from the central government.

Top officials of the department were present in this meeting, including Secretary Horticulture Ajit Balaji Joshi and Deputy Directors Harmel Singh, Harpreet Singh Sethi, and many more.
