Minister Bhagat shared that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is working actively to promote horticulture and improve the economic condition of farmers. As part of this effort, a pilot project will begin soon. Under this project, fruit plants will be grown on 5 acres of panchayat land in 10 selected villages across the state. The income from these lands will be used by village panchayats for local development.

Bhagat pointed out that Punjab’s fruits, like kinnow, mango, and litchi, and vegetables like brinjal and okra, are in high demand in international markets. Discussions were also held on using the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar to support exports.

Punjab has tremendous potential in the horticulture sector. With the connection of international markets, farmers’ income will grow, along with new job opportunities that will also be created. The climate of Punjab is ideal for growing such fruits and vegetables whose demand is high in the European and other global markets.
