Rajasthan boosts horticulture with crop insurance

Jaipur: Seeing the importance of horticulture, the Rajasthan government has taken some positive steps for the escalation of horticulture production. Therefore, the state government has now decided to include several products in the crop insurance scheme. This is being done to keep the interest of the farmers. This scheme is expected to boost confidence in the mind of the farming community.

As per the government’s initiative, if crops are damaged due to weather or other natural calamities, farmers will get the money through insurance compensation for their losses. The Rajasthan Horticulture Department has included horticultural crops grown in the Rabi season under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The department has kept several fruits and spices, such as guava, mango, brinjal, cauliflower, garlic, and tomato, grown in the Rabi season in the insurance scheme. This insurance can be availed through the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited. Farmers can apply online for this insurance. The last date to apply for insurance for horticultural crops is December 31, 2024.

Farmers need to show some documents to avail themselves of the insurance facility. These documents include a photocopy of the latest Jamabandi, Aadhaar card, and a copy of the bank passbook. Farmers can apply at the nearest bank, cooperative society, or e-Mitra center with these documents.
