Shivraj Singh Chouhan sheds light on ‘Farm to Consumer’ model

New Delhi: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met with farmers on the 76th Republic Day on Sunday at the Pusa Campus in New Delhi. While addressing, he highlighted the role being played by farmers in the nation-building. During his speech he stressed the need to adopt modern techniques in agriculture and horticulture sectors to increase production and overcome current challenges.

He stressed the significance of horticulture, crop diversification, and natural farming in improving productivity as well as profitability. He highlighted the steps taken by the central government in the promotion of sustainable farming practices. Agriculture-related events should be held on a regular basis for the benefit of farmers, he said.

Chouhan also shed light on the “Farm to Consumer” model, which allows farmers to sell their produce, including horticulture crops, directly to consumers. This model, he explained, helps farmers bypass intermediaries, ensuring they earn better profits. He said that ‘farmers play a major role in the Indian economy, stating they are the soul of the country. They grow fruits, vegetables, and grains to provide food to the people.

The minister confirmed that the current government’s main focus is to boost the horticulture sector and farmer welfare. Chouhan further added that prosperous farmers are essential for making the country thriving. He assured the farmers that the ministry has not left any stone unturned to transform the vision into a reality.
