Sikkim CM focuses on tech and policy reforms to boost horticulture 

New Delhi: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang took part in a high-level meeting on agriculture and horticulture. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) organized it via video conference. Union ministers, chief ministers, and cabinet ministers from across the Northeast took part in the discussion to strengthen value chains and market linkages in agriculture and horticulture. Issues like key challenges, including poor infrastructure, were raised.

Currently, farmers have limited access to modern technology and poor access to markets. Therefore, farmers are not getting the true price of their productivity and hard labour.  CM Tamang emphasized that it is essential to make a concrete policy to help farmers. Farmers need to get loans from nationalized banks, and the importance of technology and improved connectivity to help farmers and producers.

In a special acknowledgment, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Union Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia for his deep insights and strategic recommendations. Scindia’s contribution, especially in analyzing the structural and operational gaps in the agricultural value chain, was noted as instrumental in guiding future policy direction.

With this initiative, North East states will get a big boost in the horticulture sector. The regions are packed with immense opportunities in the horticulture sector. Farmers need timely support and modern techniques; then they will definitely boost their yield, which will improve the economy of the Northeast states as well as farmers’ incomes.
