Sikkim hosts Indian Orchid Festival 2025 with gaiety

Pakyong: The Indian Orchid Festival 2025 was organized from March 1 to March 4, 2025, at the ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids in Pakyong, Sikkim. The theme of this year’s event was ‘Orchids for Beauty and Prosperity’. The four-day event displayed the key role of orchids in the development of floriculture all over the country. The event was an opportunity for farmers and others to exchange views with experts and gain valuable knowledge about the industry.

The organization of the Orchid Show and Competition caught the eyes of all, where participants showcased their best orchid samples. Participants who contributed to orchid cultivation were awarded for their remarkable services.

A brainstorming session was also organized to discuss the current challenges being faced by the orchid farmers. Experts and participants discussed at length and breadth and shared some significant visions for the promotion of orchids at national and global levels.

Visitors got a chance to explore the ICAR-NRCO Orchid Conservatories, which was packed with a diverse collection of orchids. Besides this, nurseries and orchid growers set up sales points, from where visitors could purchase plants and build professional connections.

Focus has been given on collaboration between academia and industry so that innovative practices can take place in flower harvest. On the concluding day of the event, cultural events and a prize distribution ceremony took place. Officials and farmers were felicitated for their contribution to the floriculture sector. On this occasion, Dr. S.P. Das, Director of ICAR-NRCO, Sikkim, along with experts from various institutions, orchid farmers, and members of the public, were also present.
