SKLTHU VC stresses need for advanced research to help farmers

Mulugu: Sri Konda Lakshman Telangana Horticultural University, Vice-Chancellor urged that the time has come to start in-depth research in all fronts of the horticulture sector to benefit farmers. He gave his verdict while leading the inaugural Research and Extension Council meeting at the university headquarters in Mulugu. Dr Rajireddy stressed the significance of technical research that can address the real challenges faced by farmers. He said that he would consider himself successful when farmers start getting from the research findings and improve their lives. Special attention was given to the development of hybrid vegetable varieties and seed production.

He went on to say that it is essential to educate students about horticulture and agriculture since their school days. The university is working on strengthening the market intelligence system for vegetables grown in Telangana. This will help farmers get better prices for their produce.

Dr. Rajireddy made a concrete plan on how to make every village self-sufficient in vegetable production. He emphasized setting up a marketing system every 50 km to ensure fair prices and lower transportation costs for farmers.

Modern technologies, such as solar panels and artificial intelligence-based farming, will be integrated to improve agricultural practices. During the event, Dr. Rajireddy released the university’s 9th annual report, highlighting its progress and future plans.

The university is ready to excel in research work for the welfare of farmers and further growth in the horticulture sector.
