Smart Urban Farming Scheme Approved by Delhi Government to Create Green Jobs
In Delhi, people will be able to grow fruits and vegetables on the terrace and balconies of their houses. The Delhi government will provide the necessary training and assistance. Smart urban farming was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. This will increase the engagement of the people living in urban areas towards agriculture and increase in employment as well as the green area. The government will promote this initiative through public participation. In the first year, about 25000 families in Delhi will be benefited. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a digital press conference that for those who want to grow fruits and vegetables on the roof or balcony of their house for the purpose of doing business or consumption of their house, the Delhi government will give training to them. A large number of experts will be hired and a tie-up with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute will be done to train people in urban farming. There will be 400 urban agriculture awareness workshops for the people. Under this, 40 master trainers and 10,000 people will be trained. At the same time, 600 entrepreneurship training programs will also be organized for the people through industry partners, in which 15,000 people will be trained.
Initially, the government would provide some seeds and fertilizers to the growers. The government has divided this entire sector into two parts. First, for people who want to grow vegetables and fruits at home for their household consumption. Second, those people who want to do their business, who have a little more space and want to do something as a business. The Chief Minister said that if people grow fruits and vegetables for their household consumption, then healthy and organic vegetables will be available.
Delhi Environment Protection Committee for monitoring:
Delhi Environment Protection Committee will be formed to connect with the urban farming campaigns, make them aware and monitor their training. The committee will include representatives of NGOs, RWAs, environmental experts, MLAs and councillors. The government will prepare a system to make available the necessary materials to the people for urban farming. Through which necessary material will be made available to the people on their one call.
