Telangana pushes horticulture farming in Rangareddy district
Rangareddy: The Telangana government has been planning to encourage horticulture farming in Rangareddy district. It is expected that a team of special coordination committee members will be formed soon to support this pilot project. The aim of the scheme is to increase the area of three villages of Yacharam Mandal for horticulture crops. The state has immense potential in horticulture productivity. Therefore, all efforts are being made in this sector to make the state economically sound.
Kodanda Reddy, chairman of the Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission, led a review meeting about the formation of the committee. The committee is to be set up under the supervision of the Farmers’ Commission. Several representatives from the agriculture and horticulture departments will be part of the committee, including one member from the Farmers’ Commission.

The project will take place in some of the villages, like Gaddamallaiah Gudem, Mondi Gourelli, and Chaudhary Guda. The horticultural capability is enormous in such villages; therefore, they have been chosen. Officials went on to say that the study took place on those farmers who grow vegetables and leafy greens in these villages.
Rangareddy district is known for low rainfall, and the water resources are limited as well. The farming community has been asked to focus on such crops that need less water. The initiative is aiming to promote sustainable farming so that farmers can earn more profits along with protecting the environment.
This project is likely to be used for other regions of the state in the coming days, bringing improvements in farming, especially in dry regions. The Farmers’ Commission is looking confident and hopes that if the project becomes successful, then it will be implemented all over the state.
