Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has approved this project costing Rs 140.74 crore in the recently held Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting. Describing the efforts of the Kejriwal government to increase the green cover of Delhi, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi said that the Kejriwal government is committed to providing clean air to the residents of Delhi. To continuously increase the green cover of Delhi, the Delhi government will plant 10 lakh saplings before the next monsoon. During this, he said that it is like an investment, which will provide better health with a better environment to our citizens.
As a part of this project, a large part of the forest area is located in Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, Dera, Mandi, Ghitorni, Maidan Garhi, Rangpuri, Tughlakabad, Pul Pahladpur and Rajokri of the Southern Ridge region has been reduced. Here, lakhs of trees will be planted to make the forest area denser and the work of removing the trees and plants of other species which harm the plants of other species will also be done. Along with this, the work of restoring the environment will also be done here by adopting measures related to the conservation of soil moisture.
More than 6 lakh saplings will be planted by the forest department in these forest areas in ‘mission mode’ before the monsoon this year and 4 lakh saplings will be planted in the next monsoon season. These plants include indigenous species of Aravallis as well as species of plants specially grown in the upgraded nurseries of the Forest Department. The work of plantation and their conservation will be done by the ‘Eco Task Force’ appointed by the Delhi Forest Department. Given this, the Delhi government has now approved the termination of the Eco Task Force for another five years. Let us inform you that the ex-servicemen and officers of the Territorial Army have been included in the Eco Task Force. The task force will manage the entire process of planting one million saplings and its maintenance for five years.
