Two-day chrysanthemum show begins at Punjab Agricultural University

Chandigarh: The two-day Chrysanthemum Show unveiled with enthusiasm at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Tuesday, displaying over 2,000 varieties of chrysanthemums. The event was held in honour of noted Punjabi poet Bhai Vir Singh, a distinguished nature and flower-loving personality. It is jointly organized by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping (DF&L) and the Estate Organization of PAU.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the growing demand for chrysanthemums, calling them one of the most sought-after flowers for their unmatched natural beauty. “Chrysanthemums enrich surroundings and provide an alternative to being glued to smartphones,” he said. The university is proud to be recognized as one of the top centers for floriculture research and production by ICAR, he added.

The show took place near the Dr Manmohan Singh Auditorium, enticing visitors to see the wonderful exhibition of chrysanthemums. The event occupied the second position in the international flower market, displaying a huge number of chrysanthemum varieties.

Special guests Dr APS Gill, former professor of floriculture, and Dr JS Arora and Dr Ramesh Kumar, former heads of DF&L, praised the department’s efforts in continuing this annual tradition.

Dr Parminder Singh, head of DF&L, shared details about the show, revealing that the department has developed 17 chrysanthemum varieties, including seven hybrids, and maintains a collection of over 250 varieties. The Chrysanthemum show got a warm response on its opening day, a huge number of visitors turned on the first day to see the marvelous flower show.
