UHF Nauni inks MoU with HIL to accelerate natural farming in India

Nauni: Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) recently for the encouragement of natural farming all over the country. The agreement signed through a will supports the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Regional Child Project. The project, known as the Fostering Agrochemical Reduction & Management (FARM) initiative. The project focuses on the reduction and management of agrochemical use in agriculture.

HIL is a public sector unit that comes under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The organization provides agrochemicals, seeds, and water-soluble fertilizers. This partnership is set to be a remarkable step for HIL as it is ready to concentrate on other segments of horticulture. The agreement was inked by Prof. RS Chandel, Vice Chancellor of UHF, and Kuldeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of HIL.

The aim of the project is to change the 1.5 million hectares of farmland from chemical-based agriculture to organic farming. Through the project, a huge number of people would be saved from the harmful effect of pesticide exposure by promoting natural farming methods.

Prof. Chandel described the collaboration as a historic milestone, emphasizing UHF’s leadership in agroecology and natural farming. He expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to reduce chemical use in agriculture and create pilot models for nationwide adoption.

UHF Nauni is known for its proficiency in natural farming agroecology. It plays a vital role in the European Union-funded ACROPICS consortium, focusing on advanced crop protection methods to reduce the use of pesticides in horticulture crops. Therefore, this agreement between UHF and HIL is set to be a launching pad towards the development of sustainable farming in India; it will create an environment of healthier and eco-friendly approaches in horticulture and agriculture sectors.
