UP govt provides 50% subsidy to farmers for setting up polyhouses
Sultanpur: The Horticulture Department of Uttar Pradesh has decided to provide a 50% subsidy to farmers in the establishment of polyhouses for the cultivation of vegetables and flowers. With the help of the scheme, farmers can start Gerbera farming and earn almost Rs 20 lakh annually. If the scheme is successfully implemented, then farmers’ destiny and economic position could be changed overnight.
The department is set to cover 50% of the farming cost to promote off-season vegetable and flower cultivation. For getting bumper crops, farmers need to set up polyhouses of 8,000 square meters, costing Rs 58.16 lakh, and the subsidy will be transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Interested farmers will have to visit the Horticulture Department office on any working day and then apply the form. After that, the applications will be forwarded to the Directorate of Horticulture for approval. After the consent, farmers can construct the polyhouse through a registered firm.
According to Senior Horticulture Inspector Pawan Kumar Singh, an 8,000 sq. meter polyhouse can accommodate 50,000 Gerbera plants in two sections. Each plant produces 20 flowers annually, and the market price of one flower is at least Rs 5. As Gerbera plants remain productive for three years, farmers can harvest 50,000 flowers per year, leading to a profit of around Rs 20 lakh annually, excluding farming costs.
Farming with the help of polyhouses has been a profitable venture for the farmers, guaranteeing higher production and huge income. Progressive farmers have an opportunity to switch to modern farming for massive profit because crops grown in polyhouses are considered of higher quality compared to open-field cultivation.
