UP govt to boost guava farming under horticulture mission

Shahjahanpur: Great news for the horticulture farmers of Uttar Pradesh! The state government has taken the initiative to promote guava farming under the Horticulture Development Mission so that farmers can earn more profits. The government is set to provide financial help to inspire them to shift from traditional crops to the horticulture sector. This scheme will be beneficial for farmers to concentrate on horticultural crops for better opportunities.

According to Dr. Puneet Kumar Pathak, District Horticulture Officer, guava farming is easy; it doesn’t need any special climate. He explained that as per the scheme, the government is ready to provide subsidies on guava cultivation for up to two years for three planting methods—normal spacing, high density, and ultra-high density.

Farmers will have to sow 277 guava saplings per hectare to get a subsidy of Rs 50,000 over two years through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Meanwhile, 2,200 plants are to be grown per hectare in high-density farming, and they will receive a subsidy of Rs 80,000 for two years. The target for the third category (ultra-high-density farming) is that farmers need to plant 5,000 seedlings per hectare; then they will get a subsidy of 1.2 lakh.

Those farmers who are interested in this scheme will have to register their name and other details with the Horticulture Department. They will have to provide several documents, such as an Aadhaar card, bank passbook, land documents (Khatauni), and two passport-size photos. The registration process is set to take place at the District Horticulture Officer’s office.

The UP government’s venture is expected to boost guava yield, promoting horticulture. Not to talk of guava, the promotional scheme for the farming of dragon fruits and strawberries is also in the pipeline of the Yogi government. Such initiatives will definitely boost the farmers’ income as well.
