UP govt to set up advanced nurseries to boost fruit and vegetable production

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken an important step for the development of agriculture by establishing advanced nurseries in 73 districts of the state. The sole purpose of these nurseries is to boost the production of fruits and vegetables and improve their quality as well. However, Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) and Ghaziabad, vicinity of Delhi, have not been included under this plan.

These nurseries will be planned as per the agricultural climate conditions of each district so that plant species can adapt to the local environment in a better way. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), the respective universities, and the horticulture department will take the decision regarding the suitable regions for the plantation of each sapling.

The funding for this project will be provided under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). The nurseries will maintain the ideal temperatures and humidity to ensure the plants remain disease-free. This initiative aims to increase farmers’ income, improve crop quality, and ensure fair prices.

As of now, the UP government has already set up 36 nurseries, and all of them are giving positive results. This effort is likely to boost exports and create employment opportunities for the locals as well.

It is not clear about the exact cost of setting up these advanced nurseries under the state government’s plan, as it will depend on several factors, such as the size of the nursery, the technology required, the district’s climate conditions, and the resources needed for managing the nursery. However, the construction of these nurseries is being funded under MGNREGA.
