Uzbekistan’s horticulture flourishes with ADB support

Tashkent: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided $154 million to strengthen the horticulture sector in all 12 regions of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The duty has been given to local banks to distribute funds to farmers and businesses involved in horticulture. The money is set to help the farming community to buy orchards and cold storage units and for the purchase of equipment used for processing and packaging.

The initiative has played a vital role in creating jobs, developing sustainable agriculture, and increasing farmers’ incomes. With the huge investment, Uzbekistan has made rapid progress in the horticulture sector. The growth of fruits has been boosted due to the establishment of infrastructure and other facilities such as better irrigation systems, the setting up of polyhouses, and so on, benefitting both farmers and businesses.
