The honey bee products market value is over $ 500 million and by 2025 the market is expected to reach $ 1130 million. Major consumption market is found in Europe, North America and China. Honey bee products market is increasing @ 10.7% Compound Annual Growth Rate. Indian honey bee product market demand is in USA, UAE and Europe. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has the vision that our country needs a ‘sweet revolution’ after the White Revolution, Green Revolution, Blue Revolution, ‘Sweet Revolution‘ is a strategic step to emphasize the increase in honey bee products in the state, which can be a major contributor to doubling the income of the farmers. With the increase in income, the production of crops will also increase by 15%.
ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT, which interprets as ‘SELF-RELIANT INDIA’ or ‘SELF-SUFFICIENT INDIA’, is the vision and passion of our Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi ji to create India “a bigger and more vital part of the global economy”, pursuing policies that are efficient, competitive and resilient, and being self-sustaining and self-generating. Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi ji also asserted that “The mindset of free India should be ‘VOCAL FOR LOCAL’ and we should appreciate our local products, if we don’t do this then our products will not get the opportunity to do better and will not get encouraged.
Toning to the accord of ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT programme, BSc (Hons) Horticulture students of Dr YSR Horticultural University – College of Horticulture, Venkatramannagudem, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh are presently preparing multiple indigenous VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS OF HONEY AND BEESWAX under Experiential Learning Programme ( ELP ) – Beekeeping . These products are 100 % natural, organic and safe for consumption and use which can be scaled up for sales and marketing in Indian market in tune with the slogan ‘VOCAL FOR LOCAL’. The list of Value added Honey and Beeswax products developed by ELP students are given in separate list.
As a part of, ELP Beekeeping which is mandatory for final year graduate students, a beekeeping Unit was set up in Department of Entomology, College of Horticulture in 2017 and over 150 students were trained in scientific beekeeping . The ELP students of College of Horticulture, Dr YSR Horticultural University, are further being trained as Entrepreneurs initiate START Ups to scale up the Honey and Beeswax products to provide employment to youth, women and school drop outs.
Dr YSR Horticultural University – College of Horticulture, Venkatramannagudem organized several ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME for youth of Dr YSRHU adopted villages viz., Prakasraopalem, Kovuluru, Telikacharla villages of West Godavari district , Andhra Pradesh under ICAR – SC SUBPPLAN project . The participants were trained on the preparation of various value added products of honey and bees wax.
