Due to the climate change, growing produce indoors is becoming a necessity. Particularly, lettuce is finding difficult to survive with profits.
Many International indoor vertical farming companies are facing shutdown. Large companies like Fifth Seasons’, AppHarvest, Agricool, Infarm, IronOx etc are facing difficulty to survive. Some went into receivership while some others laid off their employees.
In December 2022, 1.7 billion dollars were invested in indoor produc.e The investors expevted to make huge profits. Many international indoor vertical farms are getting closed. It is difficult to get silicon-valley style returns.
Though it is beneficial to grow produce indoors in a controlled environment but practically it costs a fortune to grow produce indoors. The indoor farms are expensive to build and run. Now, the market has started trembling and investors want return, the industry is facing difficulty. Companies/ Farms are trying to shift to other types of produce that could potentially make more.
