Visibility drops in Delhi amid dense fog, disrupting traffic movement

New Delhi: Delhi’s air quality fell into ‘the ‘severe’ category on Thursday morning and touched 426 at 9 am today, the worst in the country. Additionally, dense fog blanketed the NCR, dropping the visibility. Driving has become very difficult; commuters have to face a lot of problems in their movement. Several residents of the national capital have cancelled their trips due to the increasing trend of smog and air quality.

The pollution levels have been affecting the health of children and senior citizens. Diseases like respiratory, cough, and lung problems have been increasing with every passing day. Rush in the hospitals has increased. Many patients have to be admitted to the hospitals. Doctors have advised people don’t go outside in such a situation; if anyone has to go, then they must use a mask.

A thick layer of smog has surrounded the entire NCR, so the flight and train movements have been badly affected. Several trains are running late, and some of them have been cancelled amid poor visibility. IndiGo Airlines, in its early morning bulletin, said, “This morning, winter fog may impact flights to/from Amritsar, Varanasi, and Delhi. Please keep eyes on your flight status: https://bit.ly/31paVKQ, before heading to the airport. The movement on highways has been severely affected amid fog. Traffic is crawling in some areas as well.

At present, STAGE 2 remains in effect; it was implemented on October 22. The situation is worsening, and it seems STAGE 4 is likely to be activated because AQI has surpassed all the limits in the national capital. The Delhi government has been trying its best to control the air pollution, failing to curb the firecrackers.
