Women prefer nursery sector over agricultural labour, earning Rs 350-400 daily
Annamayya: The women of Annamayya district have been taking a lot of interest in the nursery sector to make them economically powerful. It is said that more than 14,000 women are working on 3,418 nurseries in the district. They are supporting more than 5, 000 families. A huge number of women in the district have achieved financial independence by working in different nurseries.
Several women have sent their children to big cities to get higher education. This shows the empowerment of women due to employment in the nursery sector. It is expected that on average a woman has been earning around Rs 350 to Rs 400 every day; it depends on the size of the nursery. Therefore, many women have preferred to work in the nursery instead of agricultural labour.

Not all the women are working as labourers in nurseries; several of them have reached managerial posts, supervising the daily operations of the nursery. They are getting a satisfactory salary between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 per month.
K Sivamma, a nursery worker, said, “We personally manage the nursery. The owners have given us a house. We water the saplings daily and take care of their growth. We receive a monthly salary of Rs 15,000.”

Through nursery management, women are achieving economic self-reliance and a better future for their families.
