Yamuna-Khadar Area will be Rejuvenated, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Himself Involved in the Campaign
Along with cleaning the Yamuna, the campaign to beautify the Khadar area has started. Flowers, fruit trees and bamboos will be planted on both sides of the river to provide a healthy environment to the visitors. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi himself is involved in this campaign. The officials of Delhi Development Authority have been directed to clean and rejuvenate the 11 kilometer flood affected area.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inspected Shastri Park, Bela Farm, Garhi Mandu block in North-East Delhi. DDA officials were also present with him. After inspecting the area of 11 km, directed to take immediate steps to rejuvenate there.
The LG said that once the rejuvenation is done, the flood plain should be brought back to life. Different species of grass, bamboo, flowers and fruit bearing trees should be planted and instructed to plant one lakh saplings in Shastri Park. The area is adjoined by Seelampur, Shastri Park and Shahdara localities.
In the first phase, the banks of the Yamuna will be cleaned by removing garbage, dumped waste, animal waste and encroachments. After this grass will be planted. Two water bodies will be formed in the plains. Both the water bodies will be linked through a channel.
The demand for pollution free Yamuna has started intensifying. In this connection, a panchayat was held on Sunday in the premises of Sai Baba temple located in Najafgarh. During this, a resolution was passed that a two-day Sadbhavna Yatra would be started from Najafgarh from March 25 to make Yamuna pollution free and on March 26, aarti would be held on the banks of the Yamuna to conclude the yatra. Office bearers of various organizations and common people announced that they will no longer tolerate the plight of Yamuna river and will suffocate it by making it pollution free. While presiding over the panchayat, Palam 360 Khap head Surendra Solanki said that the campaign to clean the Yamuna river has been going on for years.
