YP Singh sheds lights on horticulture trends ahead of IIHE 2025

Horticulture in India has experienced remarkable growth over the years, driven by advancements in technology, increasing market demand, and strong industry collaboration. The India International Horti Expo (IIHE) 2025, scheduled to take place from March 20-22 at the India Expo Center & Mart, Greater Noida, aims to further accelerate this progress by bringing together key stakeholders from across the horticulture value chain. On this occasion, Nursery Today spoke with YP Singh, President of the Indian Nurserymen Association (INA), to discuss the current status of horticulture in India, the role of IIHE 2025 in industry development, and the opportunities it presents for professionals, businesses, and startups. Q: Thank you for speaking with us. Horticulture in India has grown tremendously. How do you see its current state?

A: Yes, horticulture in India has developed significantly over the years. Today, it plays a crucial role in our agricultural sector, contributing to food security, employment, and exports. More farmers and entrepreneurs are now involved in this sector, thanks to advancements in technology, government support, and increasing consumer demand for high-quality fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants.

Q: The India International Horti Expo (IIHE) 2025 is set to take place in March. How will this event benefit the industry?

A: IIHE 2025 is a major platform for the horticulture industry. This event will bring together farmers, researchers, entrepreneurs, government officials, and international experts. It offers opportunities for networking, business expansion, and knowledge sharing. Participants will get to see the latest innovations in nursery production, greenhouse technology, irrigation, hydroponics, aeroponics, and sustainable farming.

Q: What is the contribution of INA in supporting the horticulture sector?

A: INA has been at the forefront of the horticulture industry for over 33 years. It was founded in 1987 by the late Shree Arjan Das Agarwal and six other visionaries. Currently, we have more than 3,600 members from all over India. Our goal is to support nursery growers, florists, landscapers, plant breeders, and researchers by providing them with the latest industry knowledge and business opportunities. We organize training programs, workshops, and networking events to help our members grow their businesses and adapt to changing market trends. INA’s collaboration with IIHE 2025 is a step forward in bringing global exposure to Indian horticulturists.

Q: IIHE 2025 is introducing a special networking event called Horti Connect. What is its purpose?

A: HortiConnect is an exclusive networking dinner on March 20, 2025. It is designed to help industry leaders, business owners, investors, and policymakers connect in a relaxed setting. The event will feature keynote speeches, interactive discussions, and informal conversations. This is a great opportunity for stakeholders to discuss market trends, new technologies, and investment opportunities. It will also allow startups and small businesses to meet potential partners, investors, and government officials who can support their growth.

Q: You mentioned startups. How is IIHE 2025 supporting new businesses in horticulture?

A: Startups often struggle with funding, market access, and scaling their businesses. To address this, IIHE 2025 has partnered with MSME support programs that help small businesses secure government subsidies and financial assistance. This initiative aims to provide funding, mentorship, and technical support to emerging horticulture entrepreneurs. By creating a supportive ecosystem, we hope to encourage more innovation and sustainable growth in the sector.

Q: IIHE 2025 also has an international focus. Can you tell us about the global partnerships involved?

A: Yes, IIHE 2025 is being organized by Pixie Expomedia Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with international expos such as Hortex Vietnam and the ASEAN Landscape and Gardening Expo in Thailand. This international presence will bring new ideas, technologies, and business opportunities to Indian horticulturists. In addition, the event is supported by esteemed industry bodies like the Indian Nurserymen Association (INA), the Irrigation Association of India, the Coir Board of India, and Tancoir. This collaboration will help Indian businesses connect with global markets and adopt best practices from around the world.

Q: Sustainability is a major concern in agriculture. How is IIHE 2025 addressing this?

A: Sustainability is at the heart of IIHE 2025. The expo will focus on eco-friendly solutions such as organic farming, water-efficient irrigation methods, biodegradable packaging, and sustainable plant production techniques. Many exhibitors will showcase innovations in greenhouse automation, integrated pest management, and climate-smart agriculture. These solutions will help farmers and businesses reduce their environmental impact while increasing productivity.

Q: Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the future of horticulture in India?

A: I am very optimistic about the future of Indian horticulture. With the right blend of technology, policy support, and industry collaboration, we can make India a global leader in horticulture. Events like IIHE 2025 play a crucial role in bringing people together, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth. My hope is that more young entrepreneurs and farmers enter this sector and benefit from the opportunities it offers.
