Zero Electricity Bill by Using Solar Panels

Its been a year since Mr. Mehta, who lives in Mayur Vihar Phase-I, has not paid a single rupee towards electricity bills. The family of seven have been using the solar power that they have installed on the rooftop of their home, a 5kW solar photovoltaic system which cost ₹2.25 lakh. In fact, he is being paid by BSES despite consuming electricity.

The family has taken the decision in April last year and since then they pay zero bills for electricity. Earlier, it used to be between ₹4,000- ₹8,000 per month. Now, they use two-three air conditioners in summer at night. And in March they were awarded ₹1,400 to their BSES account. Amit Mehta is an IT professional. Contrary to popular belief, installing the rooftop solar system did not eat up any terrace space. They installed the panels on the pillars of their terrace, thus creating a roof. Under the roof, they have set up a lot of plants.
