Grand horticulture festival concludes in Patna 

Patna: The Bihar government successfully organized a three-day horticulture festival in Patna. The event concluded on Sunday. A huge crowd thronged to witness the dazzling show. It is expected that plants worth more than Rs 50 lakh were sold during the three-day period. Some plants, such as marigold, rose, anthurium, poinsettia, and money plants, were in great demand. Besides this, above 150 applications were received to get the state government’s subsidy to start rooftop gardening.

Agriculture Minister Mangal Pandey on the last day handed prizes to the winners of competitions that took place during the festival. Maximum prizes were won by Bhagalpur farmers, followed by Patna and Vaishali, respectively. Overall, the number of prize winners was 297, a total of Rs 12 lakh distributed in it. The minister went on to say that such kinds of events need to be held twice in a year. He also assured people about the expansion of horticulture beyond the current 13.5 lakh hectares in the state.

The festival saw a huge rush, and it is expected that more than 2 lakh people visited the event and enjoyed the different varieties of plants, flowers, and other horticultural products. About 788 farmers showcased their products in different stalls to entice the visitors. Purnia occupied the first position for displaying the most number of products, followed by Vaishali and other districts. Experts transmitted knowledge to farmers on how to cope with climate change and improve crop production.

The festival showed the huge potential of horticulture in Bihar. Farmers learnt a lot during the event and gained knowledge from experts on how to excel in this sector. The festival must be a stepping stone in the progress of the horticulture sector in Bihar.
