Word’s stickiest flower, Amorphophallus gigas, about to bloom
Jakarta: Flowers are usually known for their fragrance that attracts people and changes the atmosphere to calm and tranquil. The smell of flowers brings positivity and happiness. However, it is an old proverb that ‘all that glitters is not gold.’ One of the species of flowers, the Amorphophallus gigas, is known as the world’s stickiest flower. It smells like deceased flesh. The rare flower is set to bloom soon at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

The other name of the flower is Giant Voodoo Lily. It has got the name of “corpse flower” due to its bad odour. Currently, nature lovers are eager to see its bloom. This rare event doesn’t occur on a regular basis. Sometimes the flower takes even more than 10 years in its bloom. Its size remains about 11 feet and lasts less than two days. This is the specialty of the “corpse flower”, native to Indonesia. Last time a similar kind of flower was grown in the New York garden in 2023, the Amorphophallus titanum (another “corpse flower”) bloomed at the New York Botanical Garden. In fact, titanium is commonly seen, compared to the gigas.
