Delhi’s air quality improves, still in ‘poor’ category
New Delhi: A sigh of relief for the Delhi residents as the AQI of the city recorded at 264 on Wednesday (January 22) at 6 am, which is to be in the ‘poor’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The slight improvement in air quality has given much-needed relief to the Delhiites, because the AQI remained ‘very poor’ last week.
Better weather conditions along with winds have helped to reduce the pollution levels for the time being. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rain and thunderstorms along with lightning are likely to occur in the city on January 22 and 23. Experts’ belief that light showers will settle dust and bring respite.

As per the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the air quality is expected to deteriorate in the coming couple of days. However, weathermen and pollution control authorities say that AQI improvement depends on the intensity and duration of the rain.
The question arises how long the residents of the city-NCR will suffer. Despite all the assurances and efforts from the Centre and the Delhi government, things have not improved. People are getting sick due to high pollution levels. Respiratory and lung infections have been increasing. Children and senior citizens are suffering most.
