New Delhi: Delhi has been passing through the ‘poor’ air quality for the past several months. Despite all the efforts from the previous and present government, the situation has not improved yet. Delhiites are at health risk. Therefore, the Delhi government has taken a major step to mitigate air pollution throughout the year, installing 1,000 water sprinklers on streetlight poles in the national capital, CM Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday, calling it a significant move to curb dust, which plays a key role in Delhi’s poor air quality.

She further added that earlier, sprinklers were used in the month of winter, but air pollution remains high in every season; even in summer, the dust levels reach their peak. Gupta also criticized the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, saying they did not do enough to control pollution year-round. “We are clear in our policies and efforts, so the results will also be positive,” she said.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has the task of fixing four sprinklers in every 250 municipal wards of the city. These sprinklers will function particularly on the busy Ring Roads. Delhi residents are at health risk, especially the children and the senior citizens. Respiratory diseases and lung infections are commonly attacking the people. Dust is a key source of PM2.5 and PM10—small particles that enter our lungs that are causing serious health issues for the residents.
