Dust and pollutants increase eye irritation in Mumbai
Mumbai: Mumbai has been in the grip of severe air pollution. The air quality of the city has turned poor, and people have to face severe health issues like respiratory difficulties, lung problems, and coughing, vomiting, and other pollution-related diseases. Currently, thick smog has blanketed the city. The worsening air quality has been severely affecting the eyes, as per the experts.
Dr. Kruti Shah, a cataract, cornea, and refractive surgeon at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Girgaon, Mumbai, urges that the declining air quality can severely affect many eye issues. “Pollutants like particulate matter (PM 2.5), nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide have created numerous infections in eyes, such as irritation in eyes, redness, dryness, and itching, besides this excessive tearing,” she explains. Dust in the air has increased eye allergies as well.

Exposure to pollution for a long time may put a lot of health risks, like chances of cataracts. Dr. Shah advises that everyone should wear sunglasses to keep their eyes safe from dust and pollutants whenever they go outdoors. Always use eye drops to get relief from dryness and redness. Try to live indoors, especially in the early morning and evening, when pollution remains on the peak.
It is essential for the people of Mumbai to install air purifiers at their respective houses so that they can keep themselves away from the indoor pollution. Always remain careful and adopt such measures and keep your eyes healthy in the challenging time of poor air quality.
