Haryana pushes farmers to adopt horticulture

Narnaul: Haryana’s Narnaul district has immense potential for horticulture crops due to its favourable geographical conditions. Therefore, the Haryana government has been encouraging farmers to switch from traditional farming to the horticulture sector, fetching better income. The state government has set a target that should be achieved within the required time. The Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Horticulture Mission Implementation Unit issued these directives on Wednesday.

District Horticulture Officer and Member Secretary, Dr. Prem Kumar, presented a detailed report on the financial achievements of the MIDH scheme during the financial year 2023-24. He said that farmers are being benefitted under various components such as the plantation of new orchards, maintenance of orchards, hybrid vegetable production, mushroom production units, protected cultivation, post-harvest management, and so on.

Besides this, Dr. Kumar also tabled the annual action plan for the year 2024-25. He has been looking to get approval for the proposed activities. He went on to say that for the upcoming year, a financial target of Rs 2.07 crore has been set. The money is set to be used in several segments, such as new plantations, protected cultivation, mechanization, pack houses, onion storage facilities, loose flowers, spicy vegetables, vegetable seed production, and mushroom production units.

Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma emphasized the need for effective implementation of the schemes. He directed officials to raise awareness among farmers about these schemes and to identify specific villages at the block level for targeted execution.

The Haryana government has been ready to give full support to the farmers so that they can start growing horticultural crops with ease. Narnaul district has the potential to become a horticulture hub. Therefore, officials have been working relentlessly to promote horticulture products in the districts. They are encouraging farmers to keep their feet in the horticulture sector.
