New Delhi: In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, the Vice Chairman New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Satish Upadhyay has appealed to discontinue the use of plastic items in NDMC Auditoriums and Community Halls.

He said with a strong commitment to embracing 100% biodegradable materials, the NDMC aims to lead by example by discouraging the use of plastic items within its premises. This initiative aligns with the vision of a cleaner and greener New Delhi and seeks to foster a more eco-conscious society, in line with the Prime Minister’s call for “Vocal for Local”.

He said to ensure the strict implementation of this initiative, the NDMC is considering the formation of a monitoring team tasked with overseeing compliance. This move underscores the NDMC’s dedication to ensuring a plastic-free environment for its residents and visitors.

Upadhyay appealed to all stakeholders, including event organizers, visitors, and residents, to cooperate in the amendment of this rule. By doing so, we can collectively contribute to the success of the Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness Survey), creating a healthier and more pleasant atmosphere for everyone, he said.

He further said that this initiative also resonates with the national campaign of “Vocal for Local” as envisioned by the Prime Minister. It encourages the use of only biodegradable materials as publicity materials in NDMC premises or areas. “We urge all individuals and organizations who use NDMC facilities to pledge not to utilize plastic items in their publicity materials during events, programs, or IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities.”

He said, “By embracing this eco-friendly initiative, the NDMC is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable and cleaner environment for the city of New Delhi.”
